We are delighted to record that after a lot of hard work the Finding Fryston Project and Excavation Report has been printed and is now ready for distribution.

Fittingly it is almost exactly 3 years since we started the excavation element of the project in 2015. A large amount of preparation work was undertaken in May 2015 ranging from spraying the nettles and giant hog weed to replacing the original dilapidated gates into the Hall grounds from Fryston Common Lane before digging started in mid – June.

What followed over the next two years was a lot of hard physical work by many volunteers but the outcomes have been superb. The site was very productive. Over 13,000 artefacts were discovered mainly from the target period of the 11th Century, following the Norman Conquest and the granting of Fryston to the new Benedictine Abbey at Selby, through to the late Victorian period at the start of the 20th Century. Some of the discoveries enabled us to piece together other elements of the unrecorded history of our village.
All aspects of the project are captured in the Project Report which contains 75 illustrations and 16 maps in the report itself plus a lot more in the 8 Appendices.

Almost 100 copies of the report were pre-ordered and we have tried to contact everyone but if we have failed please contact Ray Newton on 01977 682084 or e_raynewton@hotmail.co.uk to make arrangements to collect your reserved copy which costs £10. In order to help our administration please could everyone make payment by cheque made out to Monk Fryston Time Team.
We have printed a few extra so if anyone else would like a copy please do not hesitate to get in touch with Ray or any Monk Fryston Time Team member.
