Guide Leader, Paula Spencer commented that she had been to many museums but never found the pottery displays remotely interesting but that had now changed completely as she had seen how pot shards help us to develop our understanding of the past.
This was before Simon Tomson, the Site Director of Archaeology, looked at what had been found the next day. At the mid- morning tea break, he was delighted to explain that the Guides had unearthed what Chris Cumberpatch had described as the missing link in our collection of early medieval pottery. We had plenty of cooking vessels but no tableware. This changed on Thursday evening when the Guides made their discovery!
The link will be explained at the next site Open Day on July 18th when both items will be on display.
